"Tweak" your Resume
1. The information should be clear, concise and complete.
Clear
formatting is essential. No bullets, italics, or bold. Fancy formatting
leads to unpredictability in the analysis and more manual corrections.
2. Place your NAME and ADDRESS in the center at the top of
your
resume for easy recognition.
3. Label everything. The labels serve as guideposts which the
technology understands and then knows where to put the information
which follows. Useful labels are NAME, ADDRESS, TELEPHONE,
FAX, E-MAIL, CONTACT INFORMATION, EXPERIENCE, and
EDUCATION.
4. Single-spacing within paragraphs helps.
5. When listing educational qualifications, give each
institution its own
paragraph and remember to include the name of the institution, the
city or country (if not the United States), and a date of completion of
the degree.
6. Give each work experience a separate paragraph. Make sure
to
include a start and end date. For the paragraph to be read as a job
by the software, it must carry a date.
7. Describe your skills in the context of the
job where you used them. The technology
will find them and it is helpful to employers
to know what you did in each job.
8. Be sure to give the name of each position. ENGINEER is
more
helpful in a search than ENGINEERING.
9. Avoid non-essential dates. The technology is designed to
analyze
dates as education- or work-related.
10. Keep your resume up-to-date.
